Robinhood Secures UK Crypto Approval Amid Regulatory Shift

Roger that! Robinhood has secured permission from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to offer cryptocurrency services in the country.

The company, known for its user-friendly platform and low fees, has been added to the FCA's list of registered cryptoasset companies since July 31.

This move is significant, especially considering the upcoming adoption of a more comprehensive framework for digital asset regulation in the UK. The legislation passed earlier this year placed crypto under the FCA's regulatory umbrella, with new rules set to take effect in October 2027 that will limit the authority's oversight to financial promotions and anti-money laundering controls.

The relatively short window for businesses to register and win full regulatory approval means those companies already registered under the FCA's regime might have done a substantial amount of advanced work, according to a recent CoinDesk report. David Geale, the FCA's executive director of payments and digital finance, said earlier this year that 'this is a significant moment for crypto regulation in the UK.'
