Robinhood Smashes Q2 Earnings Expectations Amid Crypto Revenue Slide
Retail trading platform Robinhood released its Q2 earnings report and crushed expectations across both earnings per share (EPS) and revenue. The company's diluted EPS came in at $0.62, beating consensus estimates of around $0.39 to $0.41. Total net revenue reached $1.31 billion, exceeding the predicted range of $1.22 billion to $1.25 billion.
The surge in revenue was largely driven by a 44% year-over-year increase in transaction-based revenue, which hit $776 million. Event contracts and prediction markets generated a whopping $156 million in revenue, a tenfold increase compared to the same period last year. However, Robinhood's crypto revenue took a 38% hit year-over-year, falling to $100 million.
The company's expansion into new areas appears to be paying off. CEO Vlad Tenev noted that Robinhood now operates across 13 different business lines, each generating annualized revenues exceeding $100 million. The launch of Trump Accounts and the public mainnet for Robinhood Chain were key highlights of the quarter.
With total platform assets climbing 32% year-over-year to $369 billion, it's clear that Robinhood continues to grow its user base and financial influence. Record net deposits landed in the range of $21.7 billion to $22 billion, while Robinhood Gold subscribers reached 4.8 million, a 39% increase from last year.
