Robinhood Stock Jumps 8% with Bitcoin Breakout, But Crypto Volumes Tell a Different Story
Riding on the coattails of Bitcoin's historic price surge past $80,000, Robinhood Markets stock jumped an impressive 8% to $112.09 on August 25.
This price action is not entirely surprising given that the platform acts as a high-beta proxy for crypto market movements, with its brokerage sitting on the other side of every retail customer's crypto trade.
The breakout in Bitcoin's price was preceded by a rally sparked by the Treasury Department's support for long-duration bonds and President Trump's call to pass crypto legislation.
However, a closer look at Robinhood's own metrics reveals a different story. In July, its own crypto volumes cooled down by 33% month-over-month to $10.9 billion, despite equity and options volumes holding steady.
