Robinhood Teases Memecoin Expansion Amid Layer 2 Network Growth
Rumors are circulating that Robinhood may launch a memecoin on its platform, following the reaction of its CEO Vlad Tenev to a post about a 'Robinhood memecoin.'
The idea was first proposed by an X user named Valu in July, and since then, the community has been interpreting Tenev's reaction as a sign that Robinhood may be expanding its memecoin offerings.
This comes after Robinhood launched its Ethereum-compatible layer 2 network, Robinhood Chain, in July. The chain quickly gained momentum for speculative trading and outpaced Solana, Base, and Ethereum in chain fee revenue, according to Arkham, an on-chain analytics firm.
Rhbinhood has a history of listing memecoins, including Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB), with its current U.S. crypto lineup also featuring Pepe (PEPE), Bonk (BONK), and others.
