Robinhood Told to Halt Tokenized AMC Stock Trading
AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron has urged Robinhood to stop trading tokenized shares of AMC stock, citing no connection, authorization, or endorsement of the product. In a statement, Aron questioned the legality of these tokens and said outside securities counsel is reviewing the matter.
When asked about the concern by Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev, Aron remained firm on his stance. The exchange's documents describe the tokens as a way for users to invest in AMC stock without actually owning it.
It remains unclear whether Robinhood will comply with Aron's request or continue trading the tokenized shares. However, this development highlights the growing scrutiny of financial institutions and their involvement in cryptocurrency and tokenized assets.
