Robinhood Wins UK Crypto Registration Ahead of FCA Rule Changes
Roger Ver's prediction about a major Bitcoin price drop might soon become a reality as FCA registration for UK crypto firms has just been issued to Robinhood. The Financial Conduct Authority granted permission for its local subsidiary to join their crypto asset register on July 31, confirming compliance with anti-money laundering rules and enabling cryptocurrency services under the current system.
The British government introduced FCA registration for crypto firms in 2020, focusing on money laundering and terrorist financing controls. Over 50 firms are listed, including Ripple, Kraken, BlackRock, and BNY. Although this registration confirms compliance with the current anti-money laundering regulations, Robinhood will need to apply again to provide crypto activities covered by the incoming rules.
The new framework takes effect in October 2027, requiring FCA authorization for firms conducting regulated crypto activities. Applications for the regime open on September 30, 2026, and close on February 28, 2027. Firms applying during this window can use a savings provision to operate if reviews remain unfinished by October 2027.
