Robinhood's RWA Meta Unleashes Volatility on Wall Street

The New RWA Meme Coin Meta Has TradFi CEOs Furious

In mid-August, Robinhood Chain launched as an Arbitrum Orbit Layer-2 blockchain built around tokenized U.S. equities. The Stock Tokens issued by Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited are backed 1-to-1 by real shares held in custody and provide economic exposure but no voting rights or beneficial ownership.

A new strategy emerged when launchpads long.xyz and Bankr introduced a feature that created the RWA meta. Instead of trading tokenized stocks, users turn them into the currency needed to trade a separate meme coin. For example, traders who want $MEME first need AMC Stock Tokens, which they acquire and send into the $MEME/AMC pool in exchange for $MEME.

The structure creates two effects: demand for tokenized stocks increases as traders buy meme coins, and aggressive buying can lock up a significant portion of the available supply. By September 2, meme coin-stock pairs logged $217 million of trading volume, compared to $127 million in direct Stock Token markets.
