Robinhood's Tokenization Ambitions Hinge on Regulatory Breakthrough
Raise in Robinhood's stock price is partly tied to crypto, but its future growth prospects are tied to tokenization and international expansion.
Robinhood Markets' (HOOD) shares rose 4.63% on August 19 as it rode the wave of a macro rally that saw Bitcoin push back above $68,000 and U.S. Treasury bond buybacks double. However, its gains were the least among a group of crypto-sensitive stocks.
One reason for this is that crypto makes up a smaller share of Robinhood's business compared to others like Coinbase and Circle. Another factor is that while it offers tokenized U.S. stocks in over 120 countries, it cannot legally sell them to American customers due to regulatory restrictions.
