Rockstar's GTA 6 Hype Falls Prey to Crypto Wallet Heists
Rockstar's upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6 has created an opportunity for scammers to target crypto wallet holders. Researchers have found several fake GTA 6 download sites that use the game's popularity to steal users' cryptocurrencies.
The investigated website, which copied Rockstar's official content, offered a supposed copy of the game for $50 or one SOL. However, behind the payment button was a script designed to inspect connected wallets and prepare harmful transactions for approval.
Malwarebytes found two scripts targeting Solana and Ethereum users. The code checked wallet balances, kept only enough funds to cover network fees, and then prepared to send the remaining balance to an attacker.
