Roundhill's XRP ETF Aims for Income Generation with Derivatives Validation
Roundhill Investments has filed an amended registration statement for its XRP Covered Call Strategy ETF, which could launch as early as January 29. The fund will offer income generation rather than direct exposure to the altcoin XRP.
The XRP Covered Call Strategy ETF differs from spot XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs) by seeking to provide current income and exposure to price returns of other XRP ETFs that trade on U.S.-regulated exchanges. The fund will use a synthetic covered call strategy to generate income, allowing it to track both spot XRP ETFs and those that gain exposure through exchange-traded futures contracts using XRP as the reference asset.
Crypto analyst Richard noted that Roundhill's filing confirms XRP has been approved as an underlying asset for regulated derivatives. He characterized this as 'derivatives validation, not price discovery,' which he said occurs only when an asset receives institutional clearance. This development is significant, as it means that XRP-linked options are permissible inside an ETF wrapper and that risk committees, counterparties, and clearing structures have already been signed off on.
