Router Protocol Announces Shutdown and Token Burn

Share

Router Protocol has announced that it will cease all operations by September 30, 2026, after efforts to commercialize or sell its technology failed. The shutdown includes a planned permanent burn of 303 million ROUTE tokens from the project's treasury, which is approximately 30% of the token's nearly 1 billion maximum supply.

The protocol cited several pressures behind the decision, including compressed bridge fees, activity consolidating on fewer blockchains, rising infrastructure costs, and capital moving from crypto toward artificial intelligence. These factors describe weaker revenue conditions for cross-chain services and a more challenging funding environment for teams building them.

Router plans to open-source selected technology components as it winds down, but the available information does not specify which components will be released or a timetable for doing so.
