Russia Blacklists Over 2,600 Crypto Wallets in Illicit Activity Crackdown
Russia's Central Bank has taken a significant step in regulating the digital asset market by blacklisting over 2,600 cryptocurrency wallets linked to illicit activity.
The move is part of broader efforts to curb the use of digital assets in money laundering and other financial crimes. The registered address data from these wallets is now integrated into a system used by financial institutions for risk assessments, requiring banks and other financial entities to immediately freeze or block transactions linked to the flagged wallets.
The total value of cryptocurrency that flowed into these addresses is estimated at approximately 1 billion rubles (around $11 million at current exchange rates). The central bank's action demonstrates its ability to identify and act against illicit use, despite the decentralized nature of digital assets.
