Russia Launches Regulated Crypto Market with $46 Billion Trading Target
Russia has launched its regulated cryptocurrency market, allowing traders to buy and sell digital assets through licensed brokers and trading platforms. According to Sberbank Deputy Chairman Anatoly Popov, the new market is expected to handle up to $46.43 billion in its first year.
The Central Bank of Russia implemented these regulatory measures effective September 1, 2026, enabling market participants to acquire digital currencies through licensed brokers, trading platforms, and investment management firms.
Three cryptocurrencies have received exclusive authorization for trading on Russia's official exchanges: Bitcoin, Ether, and Tether's USDT. The Central Bank selected these assets based on criteria including market capitalization, trading volume, and established international price history.
