Russia Opens Borders for Cryptocurrency Transfers Abroad
Russian citizens will be able to transfer cryptocurrency abroad starting September 1, 2026. This move by the Bank of Russia comes as a significant step for the market, allowing cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum to be used not only as investment assets but also as payment tools in foreign economic operations.
The transfer can be made to either the sender's own wallet outside the country or as payment for goods or services from a non-resident. The Bank of Russia emphasizes that this new opportunity does not cancel out existing currency control requirements and anti-money laundering rules.
When transferring cryptocurrency, it is essential to consider factors such as network fees, confirmation speed, liquidity, and support by the required wallet, exchange, or service. Additionally, the sender must verify the origin of funds and the economic purpose of the transaction.
