Russia Proposes Crypto Purchase Cap for Retail Investors
The Bank of Russia has proposed new rules that would limit retail investors' access to cryptocurrencies. Non-qualified investors will be allowed to buy only Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT, with a maximum annual purchase limit of 300,000 rubles (approximately $3,645). This move comes as part of the country's broader efforts to regulate digital assets.
The proposal follows Russia's recent launch of a new legal framework for digital assets. The Bank of Russia has stated that Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT meet its requirements for market size, trading activity, and price history, while other major assets such as XRP and Solana do not.
Under the proposed rules, qualified investors will not be subject to these limitations. However, retail traders will need to comply with the new restrictions, which are aimed at protecting consumers from potential financial risks associated with investing in cryptocurrencies.
