Russia Regulates Crypto Trading with New List of Acceptable Assets
Russia's central bank has taken a significant step towards regulating cryptocurrency transactions by including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether's USDT on its list of acceptable assets for public trading. This decision was made after evaluating factors such as market capitalization, average daily trading volumes, and price formation on foreign platforms.
The Bank of Russia stated that the selection was based on these criteria, which led to the inclusion of the three cryptocurrencies. Qualified investors will be able to purchase all listed cryptocurrencies without restrictions, while non-qualified investors face an annual purchase limit of 300,000 rubles (approximately $3,800) through intermediaries.
The regulator has also proposed a draft regulation that outlines the necessary measures for public discussion, which will run through August 24. This includes a test and risk awareness requirement for all investors before making transactions.
