Russian Authorities Raid Crypto Exchanges in Moscow Over $2M Embezzlement Case
Russian authorities raided several cryptocurrency exchange offices in Moscow's Federation Vostok tower on July 31, as part of an investigation into a $2 million embezzlement case.
The operation, which resulted in dozens of detentions and eight pre-trial holds, targeted individuals suspected of conning a victim into transferring funds through one of the affected exchanges.
The scammers allegedly posed as agents of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) to convince the victim, identified only as Vladimir R., to transfer a substantial sum via the crypto platform.
The raids are part of a broader pattern of regulatory action against Moscow-based crypto exchanges, which have been accelerating since 2025. Authorities have cited concerns around fraud, money laundering, and sanctions evasion.
