Russian Banks Face October Deadline for Crypto Protection System Upgrade
Russian banks have been given until October 29 to transition from the ViPNet Coordinator HW4 security system to the new HW5 protection system. The old HW4 certificates expire on this date, after which it will be impossible for banks to use them in secure networks.
The current transition is proving more complicated than a simple update. Banks need to deploy a new ViPNet Prime management complex, reconfigure their infrastructure, and train employees. In some cases, old HW4 devices may need to be completely replaced.
The cost of one HW5 complex starts from approximately 300 thousand rubles and reaches 2.5 million. Large banks are particularly at risk due to the possibility of a processing shutdown during migration, which could result in tens of millions of rubles in losses.
