Russian Billionaires Flee Stock Market for Crypto and Overseas Real Estate
Wealthy Russians are shifting their investments to cryptocurrency and foreign property due to concerns about the country's economic future. The Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service reports that the wealthiest individuals in Russia are reconfiguring their portfolios, favoring crypto, overseas real estate, and private investment funds.
The state of the Russian stock market suggests a prolonged decline, with quotes falling for 19 weeks straight. This trend indicates growing uncertainty about the viability of Russia's financial system, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service.
The shares of leading Russian companies have significantly fallen in price: Gazprom by over 21%, VTB by more than 21%, Nornickel by 24%, Aeroflot by 27%, and MTS by 28%. Polyus, Russia's largest gold producer, lost over 53% of its value in two weeks.
Sinced April this year, the Russian stock market has lost about 30% of its value, returning to 2016 levels. This is a rare occurrence, dating back to 1997, and highlights the toxicity of contemporary Russian securities.
