Russian Crypto Market Faces Isolation Risks Amid Sanctions and Regulation
The Russian crypto market is at risk of isolation due to tightened sanctions and updated regulations, according to Kirill Pistov, head of product development at Finam financial group. The increased transparency in the legal framework makes it easier for external authorities to track asset movements through Russian exchanges, brokers, and digital depositories.
The new regulation requires market operators to legalize their activities, making addresses more visible for analysis. This increased visibility can lead to higher risk classifications for assets passing through these addresses, particularly if they are linked to sanctioned entities or individuals.
Pistov notes that the availability of only three digital assets, Bitcoin, Ether, and USDT, in legal circulation contributes to market limitations. The list does not taint the assets themselves but restricts their use within Russia.
