Russian Crypto Market Faces Sanctions-Induced Isolation

Instruments

Russian cryptocurrency market is at risk of isolation due to sanctions, according to Kirill Pistov, head of product development at Finam financial group. The updated regulation in Russia requires market participants to operate legally, making their addresses and asset movements more visible for blockchain analytics.

This increased transparency can lead to scrutiny of operations associated with Russian platforms, especially considering the external pressure including sanctions related to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The risk is higher for USDT, a stablecoin from the permitted list, as its issuer Tether can freeze tokens at holder addresses. This may reduce the depth of the domestic market and create a separate pricing perimeter with a discount to international quotes within the country.
