Russian Sanctioned Stablecoin Found on Binance and LCX
A Russian stablecoin called A7A5 has been found on Binance and LCX, two prominent cryptocurrency platforms. Despite being sanctioned by the EU and US, pages promoting A7A5 appeared on these platforms until questioned by UNITED24 Media.
The total value of A7A5 transactions since its launch in 2025 has reached over $100 billion, with the stablecoin used for international settlements, including within Russia's shadow fleet. This alternative financial system was built after Russia lost access to parts of Western banking infrastructure.
Binance initially stated that sanctioned tokens are not traded through their centralized exchange, but can be accessed through Binance Wallet, a self-custodial product. However, following UNITED24 Media's inquiry, Binance removed additional references to A7A5 and committed to improving internal processes.
LCX-hosted pages described the asset as 'fully compliant,' operating 'under state supervision,' and meeting 'investor protection' requirements. LCX claimed that these materials were automatically generated SEO pages displaying third-party market data, but did not explain why they included a purchase process and language associated with regulatory compliance.
