Russia's Central Bank Seeks to Legitimize Bitcoin Trading
The Central Bank of Russia has proposed including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether (USDT) in the list of authorized cryptocurrencies for trading on Russian exchanges.
This initiative is part of the implementation of the 'On Digital Currency' law, which will take effect on September 1, 2026. The law aims to regulate the trading of crypto assets through licensed exchanges and brokers, while maintaining a ban on using cryptocurrencies as a means of payment within the country.
Russian cryptocurrency holders are being warned about the risks associated with Tether Limited freezing USDT at the request of U.S. authorities. Experts have noted that similar cases have already been recorded involving large assets held by users from Russia and Iran.
