The Russian Central Bank has flagged a significant increase in crypto-related activity among citizens, sparking concerns from the Kremlin.

According to the bank's latest financial stability report, there was a sharp rise in transactions on crypto exchanges and peer-to-peer platforms between Q4 2023 and Q1 2024.

The report revealed that web traffic on major crypto sites increased by 16.4%, with Russians making 104.6 million visits to these platforms, resulting in unique IP addresses rising by 15.1%.

Using the Transparent Blockchain tool developed by Rosfinmonitoring, the bank found over $50.2 billion in transactions potentially linked to Russians, including trades, P2P payments, remittances, and payments for goods and services.
