Russia's New Digital Asset Law Paves Way for XRP Adoption
Russia has enacted its first comprehensive digital asset legislation, and experts believe this could pave the way for the adoption of XRP within the country's financial system.
The law, signed by President Vladimir Putin on August 4, establishes a regulatory framework that permits licensed cryptocurrency exchanges to begin operations starting September 1, 2026. It also explicitly authorizes cross-border settlements using digital currencies.
Crypto analyst SMQKE pointed out that Russia's infrastructure is already aligned with XRP capabilities through its adoption of ISO 20022 messaging standards and the Cross-Border Payments and Reporting Plus initiative (CBPR+).
The researcher noted four key areas where Russia's evolving infrastructure connects with XRP capabilities, including its transition to ISO 20022, support for CBPR+, development of RUR.MX (a domestic version of ISO 20022), and academic research that highlights XRP's potential as a bridge currency in payment networks.
The new law has been seen as a positive step for the country's crypto landscape, which previously lacked a comprehensive legal framework. With statutory backing now in place, exchanges and financial institutions may pursue broader adoption strategies.
