Russia's Regulated Crypto Market Aims for $46 Billion in First Year
Russia's regulated crypto market is expected to reach significant volumes in its first year after legalization. According to Sberbank Deputy Chairman Anatoly Popov, the estimated volume could be around $46 billion in the first year.
This forecast is based on finance ministry data that shows cryptocurrency transactions in Russia were running at around 50 billion rubles per day, or approximately 18 trillion rubles annually. However, Sberbank estimates that only about 20% of this activity will initially move to regulated exchanges, which could reach 3.5-4 trillion rubles.
The regulated market is expected to expand as Russia's crypto infrastructure develops, with annual trading volumes potentially reaching $87 billion by 2029. However, regulations on retail investment in cryptocurrencies may affect the pace of adoption, and only a small portion of overall crypto activity in the country will initially move to regulated markets.
