Russia's Sberbank Plans to Accept Major Cryptocurrencies as Loan Collateral
Sberbank, Russia's largest bank, plans to accept Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Tether (USDT) as collateral for loans, according to Anatoly Popov, the bank's vice president. This move comes after the Russian Central Bank published a directive on August 11 that outlines new regulations for cryptocurrency trading and investment. The directive includes provisions for the public circulation of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether, which will become effective once all regulatory requirements are in place.
Popov stated that Sberbank will add BTC, ETH, and USDT to its list of accepted collateral assets after these cryptocurrencies have been officially recognized by the Russian Central Bank. The bank aims to expand its cryptocurrency-based loan offerings in the future.
