RWA Meme Coin Meta Creates Volatility on Robinhood Chain
The New RWA Meme Coin Meta Is Creating Volatility
Robinhood Chain, an Arbitrum Orbit Layer-2 blockchain launched on July 1, allows users to trade tokenized U.S. equities. The platform recently introduced a new feature that enables traders to turn these tokens into the currency needed to buy separate meme coins.
This 'RWA meta' has been creating significant volatility in token prices, particularly for stocks like Hims & Hers (HIMS) and AMC Entertainment (AMC). For instance, on August 29, the price of tokenized HIMS surged by over 112% within hours to $61.15, a premium of nearly 100% above the real stock's Friday close.
The mechanism behind this volatility is attributed to the way automated market makers (AMMs) calculate prices based on liquidity pool balances. When one side becomes extremely scarce, even modest purchases can cause massive price swings.
