RWA Perpetual Contracts Surge Past $61 Billion in Volume
RWA perpetual contracts have been gaining traction in the crypto market, with their volume nearly matching that of Bitcoin on two major exchanges. According to a report by Talos, RWA perpetuals generated $61.7 billion in seven-day volume on Hyperliquid and Binance, accounting for 99.2% of Bitcoin perpetual volume across both venues during the week ending July 31, 2026.
The majority of this volume came from tokenized equity contracts, which produced $22.8 billion, while commodities contributed $9.1 billion. This growth has led to RWA derivatives surpassing every other perpetual category combined on Hyperliquid for the first time.
However, despite their increasing popularity, RWA perpetuals still only represent a small share of total futures activity, making up about 7.5% of the broader $821.4 billion futures market tracked by Talos.
The growing popularity of RWA perpetual contracts has also revived a long-running debate over Bitcoin governance, with Craig Wright arguing that Bitcoin's base protocol should remain permanently fixed to prevent committee control and promote decentralization.
