RWA Perpetuals Surpass Bitcoin Volume on Major Exchanges
Real-world asset (RWA) perpetual futures have seen significant growth on major venues such as Hyperliquid and Binance. According to Talos, the seven-day volume of RWA perps reached $61.7 billion, equivalent to 99.2% of Bitcoin perpetual volume on these platforms.
The majority of this activity was linked to equity contracts, accounting for 57.8% of the total volume, followed by commodities at 28.2%. Hyperliquid led the category, reporting $25.1 billion in RWA perpetual trading volume for July 13-19.
Talos also noted that the value of onchain RWAs has grown to about $36.8 billion, excluding stablecoins (per RWA.xyz). This growth is likely due to the increasing demand for tradable exposure to tokenized assets, which can be accessed using the same core mechanics as crypto derivatives.
Regulatory pressure and 24/7 trading are also becoming increasingly important as traditional finance engages more directly with blockchain-based markets. Intercontinental Exchange CEO Jeffrey Sprecher has urged regulators to create a 'level playing field' for onchain perpetual futures, arguing that market structure should not block development of blockchain-based trading.
