RWA Trading Surpasses Crypto on Hyperliquid, Marking New Era for DeFi
The recent trading volume on Hyperliquid has revealed a significant shift in the crypto market. For the first time, tokenized real-world assets (RWA) have surpassed crypto trading volume, accounting for $25.1 billion or 52% of the platform's total weekly volume.
This milestone is attributed to individual stocks taking the lead within RWA since June, surpassing indices and commodities on the HIP-3 mechanism. They now account for 61% of all RWA trading volume.
According to Lorenzo Valente, Head of Digital Assets Research at ARK Invest, this marks 'a new era for DeFi.' He believes that RWA trading will have its own leaders and platforms that dominate their niches, potentially reducing the value of control over major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Solana (SOL).
Hyperliquid's growth has attracted Wall Street institutions, with NYSE parent company Intercontinental Exchange's CEO Jeffrey Sprecher calling for regulators to create a 'level playing field' for launching 24/7 on-chain futures.
