Samsung Integrates Native Stablecoin Support into Samsung Wallet
Samsung Electronics has announced that its popular Samsung Wallet app will soon support native stablecoin functionality. This move is seen as a significant step forward in the adoption of stablecoins, which are digital assets pegged to the value of a fiat currency.
The company confirmed this development at its Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event on July 22, although it did not disclose which specific stablecoins will be integrated or when the feature will launch. Lee Dinham, a product manager at Samsung, stated that the goal is to become one of the first major smartphone brands with native stablecoin functionality.
Samsung's existing partnership with Coinbase has already allowed over 75 million Galaxy users to buy crypto directly within the app. The company also recently acquired a combined 4% stake in Upbit operator Dunamu for approximately $408 million. However, Samsung has distanced itself from Open Standard's OUSD stablecoin group, despite being listed as one of its founding partners.
The introduction of native stablecoin support is expected to greatly expand the reach and accessibility of these digital assets, turning access into a simple settings toggle rather than requiring users to download a separate app. This development has significant implications for the distribution and adoption of stablecoins, which are already gaining traction in various markets.
Samsung's approach to integrating stablecoin support is notable, as it prioritizes control over speed and compliance with regulatory requirements. The company has emphasized its commitment to working within existing frameworks and laws governing digital assets, rather than pushing the boundaries or taking a more experimental approach.
