Samsung Integrates USDC Stablecoin into Samsung Wallet App
Samsung has announced plans to integrate Circle's USDC stablecoin into its Samsung Wallet app. The move was unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked in London, where a demo showed USDC sitting alongside payment cards, hotel keys, and loyalty points on the same screen.
This is significant because Samsung has a massive user base with over 1 billion devices installed worldwide. The company has been building this infrastructure since 2019, when Knox-based crypto storage first appeared in Galaxy phones. This six-year track record gives weight to the announcement.
The demo showed USDC with send, receive, and top-up flows, secured behind Samsung Knox's on-device encryption chip. However, it's worth noting that no launch date or confirmed stablecoin issuers have been announced yet. The integration is part of a broader ecosystem construction effort by Samsung, which also includes the launch of the Galaxy Card issued by Barclays on Visa.
The inclusion of USDC in the wallet app could help bridge the gap between what stablecoins can do and how ordinary people use them. Samsung doesn't have to solve the distribution problem that other companies face because its wallet is already widely used for everyday tasks like paying for parking or storing gym membership cards.
