Samsung SDS Bolsters Stablecoin Ambitions with Dunamu Investment
Samsung SDS is expanding its stablecoin capabilities through an investment in Dunamu, the operator of South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchange Upbit. The company plans to combine its cloud and cybersecurity services with Dunamu's blockchain expertise to lead South Korea's emerging digital asset infrastructure market.
Lee Jun-hee, CEO of Samsung SDS, stated that the company has already participated in projects involving tokenized securities and stablecoin infrastructure, giving it experience that can be expanded through its investment in Dunamu. 'We have already secured differentiated business capabilities in digital asset infrastructure through the Korea Securities Depository's tokenized securities platform project and through end-to-end validation, with domestic financial institutions, of the full stablecoin process from issuance to settlement.'
The acquisition complements Samsung SDS's broader technology portfolio, which includes cloud computing, enterprise IT services, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence units. The company is positioning itself to provide the underlying infrastructure supporting digital asset services, rather than launching a consumer-facing cryptocurrency business.
