Samsung SDS Taps Dunamu for Stablecoin Infrastructure Push
Samsung SDS, the IT services arm of Samsung Group, is exploring the development of stablecoin infrastructure and digital asset systems in partnership with Dunamu, the operator of Upbit, a major South Korean cryptocurrency exchange.
The potential cooperation, announced during Samsung SDS's second-quarter earnings call on Thursday, aims to expand the company's presence in the digital asset infrastructure market. CEO Lee Jun-hee stated that the relationship will help Samsung SDS secure 'differentiated business capabilities' in this sector.
Samsung SDS has already made significant progress in digital asset infrastructure through its involvement with the Korea Securities Depository's tokenized securities platform project and end-to-end validation of the stablecoin process. The company has also secured a combined 4% stake in Dunamu, alongside Samsung Securities and Samsung Card, as part of a strategic investment in May 2026.
The digital asset initiative is aligned with Samsung SDS' broader expansion into AI and cloud services, which contributed to a 5.9% year-on-year increase in Q2 revenue to 3.72 trillion Korean won ($2.6 billion). The company plans to expand its AI infrastructure from 110 megawatts today to 230 MW by 2029 and more than 800 MW by 2031.
