Samsung to Empower Billions with Stablecoins on Smartphones
Samsung's recent move to add stablecoin support to its 800 million new smartphones has sparked excitement in the cryptocurrency community, with analysts predicting that the tech giant will become a dominant stablecoin distributor.
This is not Samsung's first foray into cryptocurrencies, having introduced its digital asset wallet through Knox in 2019. The wallet allows users to store and manage various cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Tron.
According to Joseph Goh, director and head of Asia Pacific at crypto investment banking and advisory firm Areta, Samsung's move will help address one of the biggest issues holding back greater adoption: reaching potential new users. 'Distribution is the scarce asset here, and Samsung owns a great deal of it,' he said.
The company outlined its plans during its Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event, stating that over 800 million smartphones would have stablecoin features by default, including fiat-pegged savings and payments accounts.
