Samsung Wallet to Support Native Stablecoins: Which Token Will Get Priority?
Samsung has announced that its Wallet app will soon support native stablecoins, which could give one token a significant advantage over others. According to Samsung's official Galaxy Unpacked recap, updates to Wallet will include native stablecoin capability on smartphones.
The announcement has raised eyebrows among some crypto investors, who are eagerly waiting for more details about the plan. While Samsung has not disclosed any information about which issuer and network will be selected or how the feature will work, it is clear that the company's stablecoin roadmap opens up a contest over which token and network could get the shortest path into Samsung Wallet.
Samsung controls where stablecoin features could appear in Wallet and how directly a user could reach them. If a particular asset becomes the default choice in that flow, its issuer would gain visibility inside Samsung's interface. However, if stablecoin support remains several steps removed through a partner account, the distribution benefit would sit more heavily with that partner.
The Financial Stability Board recommends that covered stablecoin arrangements meet applicable requirements before operating in a market, and the United States has the GENIUS Act framework regulating covered crypto-asset issuers and service providers. This could lead to different products being released in different countries or regions, depending on local regulations.
