Sandbox Downplays Cross-Chain Bridge Exploit as 'Minimal'
The Sandbox, a metaverse project, has downplayed an exploit on its cross-chain bridge as 'minimal', but on-chain data suggests otherwise. According to PeckShield and Blockaid, token mining equivalent to five times The Sandbox's entire max supply of SAND tokens was flagged.
The exploit occurred on the Base and BNB Smart Chain (BSC) networks, with no user wallets compromised, and SAND on Ethereum (ETH) and Polygon (POL) unaffected. However, bridging between these networks has been disabled as a precautionary measure.
PeckShield detected 14.9 billion SAND minted across two attacker addresses, while Blockaid described the $49 billion in face-value unbacked SAND as 'minimal'. This figure is equivalent to five times The Sandbox's 3 billion max supply of tokens.
