Sandbox Hacked for $718M via Cross-Chain Bridge Exploit
The Sandbox's cross-chain bridge on Base and BNB Smart Chain was hacked, resulting in the unauthorized minting of 14.9 billion unbacked SAND tokens worth around $718 million.
The vulnerability affected only the SAND Omnichain Fungible Token on Base, allowing an attacker to exploit it.
The project team has contained the issue and claims that its impact is minimal, affecting less than 0.01% of total SAND supply.
No user wallets on Ethereum or Polygon were compromised in the hack.
