Sandbox Halted After Massive Cross-Chain Bridge Hack
The Sandbox platform has halted operations on its Base and BNB Chain blockchain networks following a large-scale hacker attack on its SAND cross-chain bridge. The incident allowed attackers to alter LayerZero permissions, creating unsecured SAND tokens that jeopardized liquidity in these networks.
The vulnerability was quickly identified and contained by The Sandbox team, who emphasized that user wallets remained secure and the impact of the attack was limited to less than 0.01% of the total SAND token supply. Tokens on the Ethereum and Polygon networks were unaffected.
The company recommends refraining from buying, selling, and trading SAND tokens on the affected networks due to compromised liquidity. A compensation plan for liquidity providers (LPs) is being developed, and a detailed technical report will be published after the investigation is completed.
