Sandbox Hit by Attack on Base and BNB Chain Networks
The Sandbox, a popular blockchain-based gaming platform, has been hit by an attack on its Base and BNB Chain networks. The attackers were able to change LayerZero permissions and mint unbacked SAND tokens, resulting in the creation of over 14.9 billion SAND.
The impact is minimal, according to the team, representing less than 0.01% of the total SAND token supply. However, concerns have emerged about the project's security and its future prospects.
Upbit issued a warning about SAND due to detected signs of a potential security issue, while Bithumb temporarily suspended SAND deposits and withdrawals until the network stabilizes.
