Sandbox Security Breach Causes Unauthorized Token Creation

A suspected security breach on the Base network has affected The Sandbox project, causing over 500 million SAND tokens to be minted without authorization.

According to blockchain research firm WuBlockchain, the attacker gained control of the contract deployed on Base and began creating new tokens outside the normal supply schedule.

The incident is considered one of the more severe smart contract risks as it affects token economics directly rather than draining a single wallet.

South Korea's two largest exchanges, Upbit and Bithumb, have responded to the situation by issuing warnings and suspending deposit and withdrawal functions for SAND tokens.
