Sandbox's Base Network Hit by Massive SAND Token Exploit
The Sandbox's Base network has been hit by a major exploit, resulting in the minting of over 14.9 billion SAND tokens.
This number far exceeds the token's total supply on Ethereum mainnet, which stands at 3 billion.
The attack occurred when an attacker gained arbitrary token-minting permissions on The Sandbox contract deployed on Base, a LayerZero Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) configuration that allows cross-chain token movement.
According to PeckShield, the realized proceeds from the token sales came to roughly 80 ETH, or about $675,000.
