Sanders Slams Crypto Billionaires for Backing Reform UK
US Senator Bernie Sanders has criticized billionaires who are funding right-wing parties globally, including Reform UK in Britain. He highlighted a recent report by the Wall Street Journal that two crypto billionaires donated $97 million to Reform UK within 24 hours.
The donation came from Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne, both of whom have significant ties to the cryptocurrency industry. Delo is the co-founder of BitMEX, a derivatives exchange that was at the center of a major scandal in 2022. He pleaded guilty to violating the Bank Secrecy Act and agreed to pay a $10 million fine.
However, President Donald Trump later pardoned Delo and the other two founders of BitMEX in March 2025. Harborne, on the other hand, owns a significant stake in Tether, a stablecoin giant.
