Santander Discloses $4.3M Bitcoin ETF Holding Amid Eurozone Adoption
Santander, the eurozone's largest bank by market capitalization, has revealed its holding of approximately $4.3 million in US spot Bitcoin ETFs. The bank scored around 35% on the 2026 Bitcoin Bank Adoption Index, placing it alongside institutions like Société Générale but behind crypto-forward firms like Fidelity.
This isn't Santander's first venture into crypto. Executive Chair Ana Botín has been discussing potential Bitcoin products since 2021. The bank has been building crypto custody and digital asset capabilities across Europe for years.
The $4.3 million position is part of a broader strategy to integrate crypto into its services. Santander's digital subsidiary, Openbank, began offering crypto trading services to clients in Germany in September 2025. The bank is planning an expansion to Spain as the next step.
