Santander Invests $4.3M in Bitcoin Through BlackRock's iShares Trust
Spanish bank Banco Santander has invested $4.3 million in Bitcoin through BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust. The investment involves buying a total of 129,615 shares in the trust.
This is just one example of a traditional institution seeking exposure to the largest cryptocurrency by market cap. Over the past year, Santander's digital bank Openbank has allowed customers to buy Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, marking a shift towards greater acceptance of digital assets.
The investment comes through BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which allows investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin without having to own or store it directly. The trust is the most successful crypto ETF, with $46.9 billion in assets under management and a long history of receiving high inflows.
