Santander Invests $4.3M in US Spot Bitcoin ETFs Amid Institutional Crypto Adoption
Banco Santander has revealed that it holds approximately $4.3 million in spot Bitcoin ETFs traded in the US, according to official regulatory filings.
This development reflects a trend among traditional financial institutions to build Bitcoin exposure through regulated channels, despite some banks still being hesitant about digital assets.
Santander's interest in crypto is not new; CEO Ana Botín has been making public statements about Bitcoin products since 2021. The bank has also been developing crypto custody and digital asset services across Europe for years.
The bank scored approximately 35% in the 2026 Bitcoin Bank Adoption Index, placing it among institutions categorized as 'mid-level', alongside banks like Société Générale but behind crypto-focused firms like Fidelity.
