Satoshi's Dormant Stash Awakens After 16 Years
A recent surge in onchain activity has shed new light on a legendary stash of Bitcoin (BTC) attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto. According to Galaxy Research, this 1.096 million BTC hoard accounts for 64.5% of unspent rewards from the early days of Bitcoin.
The unusual move involves seven dormant wallets that were activated on September 5, 2026, after a 16.5-year slumber. This reawakening has caught the attention of analysts, especially given increased activity in the Bitcoin market.
The 'Patoshi miner,' which mined approximately 1.1 million BTC during Bitcoin's first year and a half (2009-2010), was reportedly turned off in May 2010. The timing of the shutdown, mining behavior, steady decrease in mining speed, and lack of spending suggest that Satoshi might have been focused on growing and protecting the young network.
