Saylor Defends Bitcoin Advocacy as Senate Prepares to Vote on CLARITY Act
Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor has defended Americans' right to promote Bitcoin without a license. In a post on X, he argued that discussing and publicly recommending Bitcoin are permitted activities in the United States.
Saylor drew a distinction between promoting Bitcoin and engaging in illegal trading practices, stating that 'Bitcoin is a commodity, not a security.' He emphasized that fraud and manipulation are still punishable under existing laws.
The CLARITY Act, which would define how the SEC and CFTC divide responsibility for digital assets, faces a 60-vote procedural test in the Senate on Sept. 15. Saylor's classification of Bitcoin as a commodity aligns with a central part of the policy framework.
