Saylor Defends Public Bitcoin Advocacy in US as Protected Free Speech
Strategy's Executive Chairman Michael Saylor has defended public Bitcoin advocacy in the US as protected free speech. He argues that Americans do not need a license to discuss Bitcoin or publicly recommend owning it, separating advocacy from illegal market conduct.
Saylor stressed that fraud and manipulation remain prohibited under existing laws, calling Bitcoin a commodity rather than a security. His comments come as lawmakers continue preparing for a September 15 procedural vote on the CLARITY Act, which aims to provide clearer divisions between federal agencies overseeing digital asset markets.
The National Sheriffs' Association has shifted its position on the legislation from opposition to neutral, with Senator Cynthia Lummis welcoming the change and calling for lawmakers to advance the legislation. Strategy has also resumed Bitcoin purchases after a 10-week buying pause, acquiring 4,603 BTC for approximately $369.7 million at an average price of $80,318 per Bitcoin.
Despite these developments, Strategy shares are trading lower, down 56% over the last 12 months. Saylor maintains his public support for Bitcoin and the company's treasury strategy continues to be a focus of attention.
